Root Canal
Inside every tooth runs a living nerve, safe inside a canal. The nerve brings nutrients to the tooth and removes waste; it is the tooth's lifeline. If a tooth's nerve is damaged because of injury or tooth decay, the tooth can die. Infection may set in and create pressure in the tooth's canal. When this scenario occurs, the damaged tooth must be extracted…unless a root canal will save it.
Dr. Aust and Dr. Shaver can perform gentle root canal therapy in our Columbus dental office. The procedure involves removing the infection and damaged pulp from within the tooth's canal, then replacing it with a manmade material. A root canal will not keep a tooth alive, but it will allow the tooth to remain intact, which eliminates the need for a replacement tooth and preserves the patient's bite.
At Gentle Family Dental Care, we offer nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation to help nervous patients undergo the dental procedures they need. If Dr. Aust or Dr. Shaver recommends a root canal, rest assured that we will provide the anesthesia or sedation you need for total comfort. We always want you to leave with a smile!
